Mr. Groenhout graduated from East Kentwood High School, where he swam and played water polo. Mr. Groenhout then continued swimming at Eastern Michigan University the following year. Next he transferred to GRCC where he had an excellent biology teacher and decided to become a science teacher. He then transferred to Michigan State University, where he earned his degree in biology and chemistry as well as his teaching certification. He moved to Ontario, California and taught biology, oceanography, AP biology, chemistry, and coached swimming as well as water polo for seven years while concurrently earning his masters degree in biology. In 2007 he returned to the great state of Michigan to teach at Grandville and coach water polo. He earned his master's degree in educational technology from Michigan State University in 2013. Outside of school, Mr. Groenhout enjoys spending time with his wife and sons, traveling the US, and following advances in science and technology.
