CTL-11 Composition through World Literature
Assignment Calendar
Course Description
Composition through World Literature is a rigorous course designed to prepare students to be life-long readers and writers. For many students, this will be the last year long English course taken at Grandville High School. The literature from around the world will introduce students to stories unlike their own and we will discuss the many similarities, as well as differences, between the literature and their own lives. Throughout the year, students will begin to see themselves as global citizens throughout the year.
We work on three areas of English/Language Arts instruction: reading, writing, and literature. In order to prepare students for the rigors of university level work and also to create life-long readers and writers, independent reading will be a cornerstone of the course. As a class, we will also read and analyze novels, plays, short stories, and poems from around the world, as well as nonfiction articles from the media. We focus on analytic writing, but students also complete a college application essay and an argumentative piece.
